I remember when I was around 18 and trying to find a cure for the constant headaches I was experiencing at the time
I read a book about stuff and it said that anything that you fully experience will disappear, I didn't really understand what that meant at the time, I think I do now
I hate the smell of cinnamon, absolutely detest it, and it's everywhere at this time of year not that that has anything to do with anything, but I can smell it now gahh

Actually feeling a little more alive of late as I can feel a bit of mystery in the air, and there is NOTHING I love more than a bit of a mystery, blame it on a childhood fuelled by scooby doo, Usbourne paperbacks on how to be a spy, Harriet the spy, the avengers, winning a library competition to go backstage at the local police station or just blame it on good old fashioned noseyness, snuffle, snuffle
"What we see, and what we seem, are but a dream, a dream within a dream."
right? ;)

I decided over the weekend to start twittering, I don't know why, and as an older one I'm not really too sure what the what I'm actually doing , if I'm doing it right or what the ever, but I like to think I'd try most th8ings once, with the exception of extreme caving and cockroach eating, in comparison twitter seems fairly safe
http://twitter.com/vintageopulence

I would rather face the reality of having to scratch my leg until it bleeds than spend my evenings confined to the inside of my house, content to let the air conditioning and comfort of four walls numb me into as sense of year round sameyness, a constant inner temperature where nothing changes, the incessant television digital or otherwise plays out a life in 10 minute intervals, where it is never too cold or too hot, where you can never achieve what you are told to aspire to, and everything can be summised in sanitary soundbites.
yes maybe I'm crazy to brave to the blood sucking bastards, but what is life without feeling
I have become in recent weeks a little obsessed with the landscape of 20th century Northern Ireland, I know not why, but I read and watch and listen until it makes some kind of sense, maybe because it could happen again anywhere , maybe becasue we're all feeling too safe, with our air conditionined,television,ipods,laptops,mobilephones,supermarketdeliveries,celebritygossip,innanerealityshows,flavourlessfastfood

whats real anymore?

sometimes we spend a long forever searching for the person to save us, the hero, the mother, the comforter, the godhead, when all along that saviour is inside of us,and they don't manifest themselves with fire or thunder , or angels wings, or even any kind of drama, when you're done listening for a voice that never speaks, colours that don't scream, easy answers, fireworks, and trumpets, maybe something quiet. something not so flambouant , something banal is just right there and isn't expected, it maybe even grates

I decided to go see a psychologist this week,the precursor, irrelevant, could have been a hole in my hem, it wasn't but, that doesn't matter, one session and I already feel stronger, hell it was that or botox, and I think this will have longer lasing effects, I don't sunbathe, so not sooo much damage limitation there, but the emotional scars rundeeper anyways
Trying the whole self sufficiency thing, it's hard, I have a few veg planted now, but like life, they need alot of care
On the surface I'm, probably not that happy, but you know inside I actually am,I recall playing a game of "therapy" with some family and friends when I was about 18(if you've never played it, it is about the most awesome board game ever)and the question was "who would be the happiest in old age|
people answered me, and I think they might be right
I'll be that old woman, with a 2 acre rose garden, 100 cats and dogs, celebrating the seasons, and loving everyone, i do, I love you all , and who cares if I believe in the power of the full moon, mercury in retrograde,the calm after the storm and the newness of life in May

On a lighter note;
I love what I do, I love the people I meet as I shop for supplies, the chatty staff that comment on the items I've collected and give me a little insight into their own lives, fellow customers of all shapes, sizes, colors, ages, experiences and outlooks;
I met a fantastic lady just the other day who complimented me on my choice of vintage slips, and made me green a little with stories of thrift shopping in the 60's when one could find vintage 30's and 40's gowns, she herself still dressed to impress with awesome orange hair and a beaded bustier, I tend to go as civilian as possible when thrifting as I generally don't like to bring attention to myself, you just don't meet those sorts of people in Walmart
Then there's online friends and aquaintances, people with a similar vision, gorgeous customers who send me photos of themselves bedecked in things I have personally made for them
The sun is shining and life is sweet, yet still there is always that little inner melancholy, without which maybe I would feel lost

I quite fancy a cruise, you know casinos and stripey deck chairs, and the like, $800 for 7 days, doesn't sound too bad, but then you are stuck on a moving platform with people who you may grow to despise, a little like life on a smaller scale I suppose, not quite the same as crossing the channel to Brittany for 7 hours, I do so love being at sea,maybe I shoulda joined the navy, or become an Alaskan fisherwoman, maybe I should just stick my feet in a bowl of water and kick back to some Rod Stewart
I have a striped t-shirt and some white trousers, I'm pretty much ready for an invite to the captain's table, but I-n-know, isn't that the kind of thing bonkers old ladies do?, hmm ok maybe I'm in, but where....?

I was attempting to keep the dogs from eating my pancakes this morning when I fleetingly caught mention of Natasha Richardson's passing, I didn't read on and gave it no more thought.
This evening I was searching for screen captures of Ken Russells "Gothic" whilst listening to the Smiths 'There is a light that never goes out"
I suddenly had one of those double take moments, or rather one of those click between 2 tabs in quick sucession moments(no not those)
I rarely ever feel the need to express my awknowledgment of the passing of a dead "celebrity", Tony Hart aside, I'm no huge Richardson fan, but "Gothic" has to be one of my all time favourite films , whether you take it seriously or laugh your way through at Julian Sands dire overacting,
then I started listening to Radiohead's Street Spirt and I started thinking back to university and how he was a fellow student at the time, and how he used to dj at the university friday night "disco" and how he'd never play anything you requested, ever, then I started listening to Godstar and thinking about premature death, whatever that means, then I stopped thinking so much and settled for listening to Leonard for a while, so there you go

So disappointing to discover a 50's themed diner just down the road, to find the staff totally apathetic, the food just bleh, the atmosphere.....dead, alcohol not served
I would so like to see old chef Ramsey charge on in there and kick some butt
If you're going to go to the trouble of opening up a new eatery, and yes , put balloons outside and few crappy marilyn posters on the wall ,for the sake of all that is retro themed, put a bit of effort into it.......like with so many things these days..........lame
yes I'm getting old
what
of
it
